As a self-taught artist from Japan,

My time as a nurse not only exposed me to moments of death, but also to countless meaningful interactions with patients, of which many left a lasting impact on me.

These experiences led me to reflect deeply on life and made me more receptive to inspiration from everyday moments. It was through this process that I began my journey.

My work centers on nuanced emotion. I believe that feelings, especially pain and vulnerability are a source of beauty, and lay at the heart of being human. Painting allows me to creating opportunities for viewers to quietly reflect on their own inner world. This approach is deeply connected to my experience as a nurse, witnessing the fragility of life and its value.

I use surrealism and a palette of purples to create mystical, introspective realms that connect to my inner consciousness. This colour represents a clash between calm and fervour, when painting and blending I explore the intricacies of this balance, which in turn transports me, emotionally, to another life within my own. Self exploration.

Since my time in London, I have noticed subtle differences in expression between western and Japanese mannerisms. I aim to convey the depth of feelings and sensations that remain beyond words in Japanese culture, this beauty is represented in my paintings as fine fabric, being the veil that obscures their unspoken emotions rather than laid bare for all to see.
